Mayor Lucas places bet with Buffalo mayor for AFC Championship game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lots of bets are being placed on this Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City's mayor is getting in on the action.
It wouldn't be Chiefs postseason without a visit to an area BBQ joint.

Mayor Quinton Lucas was at Arthur Bryant's Barbecue on Friday offering up his wager to Buffalo. If the Chiefs lose, Lucas has agreed to send a platter of Arthur Bryant's Barbecue to Buffalo Mayor Christopher Scanlon.
Lucas said he's not sure what Scanlon plans to send him but in the past, when the Chiefs have won, he's received Buffalo wings.
The mayor also said when it comes to winning the Super Bowl, conversations about how to celebrate while keeping the public safe are already happening.
A celebration in downtown Kansas City will still be part of the plan but there could be some changes.
"I think on the public safety side, we continue to work closely with the Kansas City Police Department and the sports commission and others to make sure we will build out a parade that is something folks can celebrate and enjoy," Lucas said. "In terms of exact details, every year we give them after the Super Bowl. I was asked earlier about superstitions I have and one is that we don't give out an entire parade plan or anything like that until after the event is done."
Lucas has made bets with other mayors in the past, including Houston Mayor John Whitmire last weekend, which he won. Whitmire made good on his bet with the city and is sending Pappas BBQ and Irma's Original Mexican Food to Lucas.
